Minor in Possession – Third Offense
A third offense to a Minor in Possession of Alcohol will seriously affect your future as it will be a strong indication to the court, employers and others that you have an alcohol problem. Many will say that college kids will drink and that is why there is a specific diversion program for a first offense in Michigan. However, the experience of going to court, hiring an attorney, paying fines and going to classes should have a positive impact on whether or not a minor re-offends. In Michigan, with the availability of the diversion program, a third offense means that it could actually be the FOURTH conviction for MIP!
How This Affects Your Future
Every MIP conviction is a criminal conviction that could be used against you in job applications, professional degree applications, professional licensing hearings and character and fitness determinations as well as affect your car insurance and driving record.
When convicted of MIP 3rd Offense, a minor could face up to 60 days in jail!
